I have been unable to study the arabic lessons since our arrival in Malaysia, mainly because the slowness of the internet in Seremban. But now after the internet has been installed in our house in Melaka (with much hassle), I can resume my lessons. The internet speed is alright, at least the videos can run smoothly.
Nouman Ali Khan is really a man of deep understanding. I've never thought of the real meaning of this arabic/Quranic phrase before-coolness of the eyes (penyejuk mata). The psychological torment of Queen Asiah, wife of Pharaoh. And Rasulullah (saw)'s description of his prayers as coolness of the eyes, not responsibility, Allah's command or ..anything else of our interpretation of the solat.
Note to self- Coolness of the eyes means a happiness that bring you tears of joy, or a shade in the storm.
Though I want to study a lot and I'm trying my best to study what I can, but I will have to adopt the attitude of Kang Azzam in Ketika Cinta Bertasbih- yang sedikit itu kalau berkat itulah yang berguna.

Graduation
Today I realized something that made me want to cry but I laughed out instead (becoming schizophrenic?). I usually upload Teacher Nabeel's playlist of lessons and will see the beginner's lessons (by Teacher Asif) and advance lessons (by Dr V Abd Rahim). It is only me that call it beginner's lessons because that's what I thought it was. I usually only see about 15 beginner's lessons because somehow I did not upload further list.
Then I saw Lesson 21 (!). I was shocked (hehehe-now I can see how silly I was) and quickly upload all the videos in the playlist. What I call beginner's lessons are not for beginners. It goes all the way to 96 Lessons!
I don't know what's the difference between Teacher Asif's classes and Dr Abd Rahim's advance class.
Every lesson is about 120 minutes. On average I can only finish 1 lesson in 2 weeks (watch video, do exercise and flashcards, do mastering arabic workbook) minus holidays, not counting busy week or no mood week.
I estimate I can cover 96 lessons in... 4 years.
That's the same time to complete a Master's Degree in Medicine and become a specialist.
So, while laughing to myself, I made a promise that when I finish 96 lessons I will award myself with a Graduation Day.
I'm thinking of 3 Graduation Day Venues:
1. Canada- to visit Teacher Asif Meherali and let him present me with a copy of a Quran (to replace the scroll).
2. Sidney- to visit Teacher Nabeel Al-Khalidy and do as above.
3. Makkah al Mukarramah- to perform Umrah and climb to Hira' Cave, where the Quran was first revealed (is that permissible by the authorities?).
InsyaAllah. La hawla wala quwwata illa billah...
Now..9/96. Smiling to myself.

Hikmah
Today I learned something amazing! Another of my favourite Quranic story is the story of Prophet Musa (as) and Khidir (as). Everytime I come across this story I will learn something new. So 2 new things I learned about the story (one today, one last week)..
1. This is from a lecture by Syeikh Bilal Philips. He said we think that the 3 stories of Musa (as) and Khidir (as) all has the same theme ie everything that happened have hidden hikmah (Allah's wisdom). But have we noticed that in the 3 stories Allah is teaching us about 3 different hikmahs? Amazing, amazing....The 1st about the fisherman's boat, the hikmah was known quite soon, probably in the next few days. The second story the hikmah will NEVER be known in this lifetime, because the child died, and the parents would always miss him. They will probably know in the next life. The third story the hikmah were to be known in many years, when the orphans were adults and would find the treasure. So in everything that happens to us, know that there is always a hikmah behind it, whether we will know it soon, many years later or NEVER. But there always is.
2. This I got today from my Ipod's apps of daily hadith. There is a hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas (ra) that says-"If you take care of the commands of Allah, Allah will take care of you". According to a scholar, Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali, one of the thing that Allah will take care of us is that he will take care of our children. This was reflected in the second and third story of Musa (as) and Khidir (as). The child who was killed will of course go to Jannah because he died as a child. So he was saved from becoming a disbeliever and making his parents disbelievers. Allah saved him because his parents were righteous. Now, I have always look at this story from the point of the parents, but it has never occurred to me that Allah is saving the child too. And the third story also Allah send Khidir (as) to re-erect the orphans' house to secure the treasure underneath it. Allah took care of the orphans because their parents were righteous. So if we take care of Allah's commands then Allah will take care of our children even AFTER our deaths. There is no better life insurance than this. Who is the better carer of our children other than Allah swt Himself?
No wonder we have to read AL-Kahfi every Friday. When can I understand it straight away?
I have this anxiety of not being able to finish at least the beginner's classes before I start working again. I know too well I won't have time and energy to..I don't want to think about it!! But...there is a hikmah in this.. I just have to believe it. Ya Allah...help me..You Own Time..please give baraqah to my time...

Look and See, with eyes and with heart...
This is why it's not enough to just recite AlQuran, or to just read the translation, or even to just read the tafseer! Only those who master the Arabic language will appreciate the miracle.
When can my heart see it?

Downloadable Madinah Arabic Books
Alhamdulillah, i have finished Lesson 4 with Teacher Asif. Have just covered Mudaf Mudaf Ileihi.
teacher Nabeel who owns the learn Quranic Arabic Channel also teaches at Sibawayh Institue, and at the website of this institute we can download here all the Madinah Arabic Book 1, 2, 3 and handouts that are used in Teacher Asif's classes, FOR FREE! MasyaAllah...don't worry, it is with the permission of Dr Abd Rahim the author of the book. May Allah bless him for this great great charity.
It is really inspiring. What Dr Abdul Rahim, Teacher Nabeel and Teacher Asif are doing... just how many people have benefited from them, at no cost, and they receive no extra monetary gains while thousands learn arabic from them. I saw that there are 3 thousand plus people who are following Teacher Asif's online classes using Dr Abd Rahim's books all uploaded by Teacher Nabeel.
If to enter Jannah is based solely on merits.... where do I stand?
